Meropenem is a broad spectrum, beta-lactamase resistant, carbapenem antibiotic for parenteral administration. The bactericidal activity of meropenem results from the inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis. Meropenem readily penetrates through the cell wall of most gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria to reach penicillin binding protein (PBP) targets. Meropenem is stable in the presence of all serine beta-lactamases (both penicillinases and cephalosporinases) produced by gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
Meropenem Injection is a penem antibacterial indicated as single agent therapy for the treatment of:
  • Complicated skin and skin structure infections (adult patients and pediatric patients ≥3 months only).
  • Complicated intra-abdominal infections (adult patients and pediatric patients ≥3 months only).
